Michael is of Counsel to Todd Welty, P.C. He has significant experience representing individuals and businesses in federal tax disputes. He has represented taxpayers in numerous IRS audits, administrative appeals, collection matters, and litigation before the United States Tax Courts. His Tax Court experience includes a range of different types of tax disputes, from smaller substantiation cases to complex partnership matters involving real estate investments and syndications. Michael also specializes in complex discovery issues, including document collection, review, and production, and has experience developing and preparing trial graphics and other trial presentations for both bench and jury trials.
Prior to joining Todd Welty, P.C., Michael was a Senior Associate with Chamberlain Harlicka’s Tax Controversy and Litigation practice group.
Michael was recognized in the inaugural 2022 edition of Best Layers: Ones to Watch in America in the area of Tax Law. He was recognized again in the 2023 and 2024 editions in the areas of Tax Law and Tax Litigation and Controversy.
Michael received his B.A. in Political Scient from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and J.D. from the Georgia State University College of Law, where he was an active participant in the Phillip C Cook Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic.
Michael is licensed to practice in Florida and Georgia, and before the United States Tax Court. He is member of the American Bar Associate and the Sarasota County Bar Association and served on the Advisory Board of the Phillip C Cook Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic at Georgia State University College of Law from 2014 to 2021.
